Ik verbleef deze nacht in Vic-sur-Aisne,
zicht uit onze kamer.
Oma en Jean-Marie waren er ook …
Jean-Marie bracht er in zijn middelbare schooltijd de schoolvakanties door om zijn Frans te leren, … en ook nog andere dingen …
Het huis, wat verscholen achter de bomen, is waar hij zovele keren naar toe kwam.
Na een dikke twee weken, kan ik me voorstellen :
“waar zit je ‘m nu eigentlik ?”
of
“hoe verre moet Jannicq nog ?”
momenteel zit ik in de blauwe cirkel.
Soupir lag gedurende de volledige oorlog in de frontlijn. Het lag wisselend onder Frans dan weer Duits bewind.
Hier was één van de grootste veldhospitalen van het franse leger gevestigd, omdat er zo hard en wreed gevochten werd.
De balans omheen Soupir : 10.000 Franse, 11.000 Duitse, 33 Belgische en 2 Britse doden.
Ook vele slachtoffers uit Indochina, te herkennen aan de speciale gedenkstenen typisch voor hun cultuur.
In Soupir, een tweede kerhof, enorme verliezen aan beide zijden !
Er was ook een ‘vijand’: aan de overkant van de straat Deutscher Soldaten Friedhof, 11.079 graven !
Vandaag zal ik “Chemin des Dames” naderen en bewandelen, deze weg loopt over een heuvelrug, met mooie zichten over de streek. De naam van de weg werd ontleend aan de twee dochters van de Franse koning Lodewijk XV: Adélaïde en Victoire. Zij gebruikten de weg in de achttiende eeuw om vanuit Parijs hun gouvernante in het kasteel de la Bove bij Vauclair te bezoeken. Om de tocht per koninklijk rijtuig te vergemakkelijken werd de weg van een steenlaag voorzien. Later zou hij dus naar de Dames de France worden vernoemd.
Deze heuvelrug speelde ook in Wereldoorlog 1 een grote rol en vooral in 1917 is hier hard gevochten.

Het waren de italianen, die Soupir uiteindelijk bevrijd hebben.
Mijn tocht volgt nu het lange afstands wandelpad GR12 Parijs-Amsterdam.
Het is warm, vandaag veel deugd gehad van mijn hoedje ! Het rood-wit teken is van GR12 Parijs-Amsterdam.
Het blijf een mooie tocht, zoveel afwisseling tussen bossen en velden !
… en finaal, dat is hem dan “Chemin des Dames”, hier voel je de geschiedenis !
Hier kan ik nu wandelen, … in WO1 was ik al beschoten !!!
Een gedenksteen voor het dorp Ailles, volledig vernield in 1917 en nooit heropgebouwd. Deze gedenksteen is het enige dat eraan herinnert dat er hier ooit een dorp was.
De ravage in deze streek moet onvoorstelbaar geweest zijn !!
De ruïnes van de in 1917 volledig vernielde abdij van Vauclair.
Oorspronkelijk gesticht in 1134, verlaten tijdens de Franse Revolutie, vernietigd in WO1.
Ik proost op opnieuw een super wandeldag, met veel geschiedenis, mooie natuur !

Het hele verhaal lijkt op een avontuur,mooi dat we kunnen meegenieten.

Naast de oorlog en de gevolgen ervan die je op uw weg ontmoet nog veel weetjes en drama’s uit een verder verleden.
Ook dat vind ik boeiend. We blijven dagelijks uitkijken naar jou verslagen, merci.
Echt waar weer heel mooie verhalen en foto’s. Moest je daar een boek van maken, koop ik hem direct en dat zou ik lezen !
