Deze morgen bij het ontwaken passeerden er juist twee luchtballonnen boven ons verblijf. Een goed voorteken ?
Deze morgen met fris gemoed aan de kerk van de Munster voor de start.
Ondanks de mooie uitzichten, de ibuprofin en feldene, na enkele kilometer toch besloten om jammer genoeg terug te keren naar Munster.
Met pijn in het hart maar het is zo en niet anders.
Deze namiddag hebben we van de nood een deugd gemaakt en zijn we naar Le Linge geweest, de site die ik gisteren te voet niet kon bereiken en dat was wel redelijk indrukwekkend.
De Franse aanval op de top van Le Linge wordt een paar keer uitgesteld wat de Duitsers de gelegenheid geeft om de versterkingen verder uit te bouwen. De aanval vindt uiteindelijke plaats op 20 juli 1915. Voor de Fransen wordt het een regelrechte catastrofe. Het aantal Fransen dat omgekomen en vermist is op dat kleine stukje slagveld is “onbekend”. Vanaf oktober 1915 wordt Le Linge door het Franse opperbevel niet meer als prioritair beschouwd. De posities blijven tot de wapenstilstand zo goed als ongewijzigd en Fransen die er nog zitten worden alle versterkingen ontzegd. Het museum en de site errond zijn een bezoek meer dan waard.
De Duitse versterkingen zijn echt impressionant, precies de uitbouw van een middeleeuwse burcht. Als je weet dat de Fransen zich dan helemaal van beneden naar boven moeten vechten besef je dat dit een uitzichtloze situatie was.
De Duitsers legden een soort matrassenbodems over hun loopgraven om te vermijden dat er handgranaten in gegooid zouden kunnen worden.
Het museum binnen en de film die er gespeeld wordt zijn zeker ook meer dan de moeite waard
Het uitzicht vanuit de Duitse vesting op de vallei rondom.
Vanaf de jaren 70 is men de site beginnen “opkuisen”. Waar er overblijfselen van Franse soldaten gevonden zijn plaatst met een wit kruis, voor de Duitsers een zwart kruis.
Het bewijs dat erop Le Ligne niet enkel Fransen zijn gesneuveld, de Duitse militaire begraafplaats Hohrod, op een boogscheut van Le Linge.
Morgen probeer ik opnieuw om verder te stappen.

Morgen een nieuwe dag en lukt het niet dan is het maar zo. Teleurstelling is begrijpelijk. Maar die andere 35 dagen, wat een prestatie, Jannicq! 👍 En wat een bijzondere ervaring.
Gisteren wel 10 keer de blog opgezocht om te kijken of er meer nieuws was, niet dus. Toen vond ik het bericht op strava bij Trui en reageerde reeds daar.
Ondanks niet kunnen wandelen toch een leerrijk verslag.
Jannicq tot nu was dit een formidabele prestatie. Indien de pijn blijft stop aub.
Later kun je nog wel eens die laatste 4 dagen overdoen.
Denk aan jezelf.
Heel jammer te moeten dat je hebt moeten terugkeren. Van hier kunnen we jammergenoeg niet helpen, maar natuurlijk hopen we dat je verder kunt gaan en je prachtige tocht kunt gaan beëindigen. Beterschap en sterkte gewenst.
Is natuurlijk niet fijn als het lichaam ‘stop’ zegt.
Maar de prestatie tot nu is al uniek, en de ervaring nog veel unieker.
Maar met wat rust , … je ziet wel.
En zoniet doe je de laatste etappe later eens. Parijs is ook niet op één dag gebouwd, dus niet mee inzitten
